Credit Cards General
Am I qualified for a credit card?
In order to get credit, you must be able to prove that you are creditworthy (a good credit risk). What does it take to make a bank think you are a worthy credit risk – have the ability to repay debt in a timely manner?
- The factors used by a credit card company include:
- Current income and income history
- Amount of personal debt
- Debt in relationship to income
- Number of open accounts from other credit sources
- Credit history
A lender can use any credit-related information when deciding to approve or deny your credit card application as long as they do not violate the Equal Credit Opportunity Act which prohibits credit discrimination on the basis of sex, marital status, age, race, national origin, or because you receive public assistance income.
